Nebraska Federal Bonding Program
Nebraska Department of Labor (NDOL) participates in the Fidelity Bond Program, which issues bonds to employers and reimburses them for any loss of money or property due to employee acts of dishonesty. The program gives employers access to a wider pool of job seekers and opens doors of employment opportunity. Fidelity Bond Coverage
- The bond protects the employer against loss caused by fraudulent or dishonest employee acts of theft, forgery, and embezzlement
- Bonds start at $5,000 and can go up to $25,000 in $5,000 increments. They cover 6 months and are free for employers.
- Employers can ask for more coverage. They can get an extra 6 months at no cost if no claims were made against the initial policy.
- Does not cover liability due to poor workmanship, performance, job injuries, or other work accidents
Eligible Individual / Employee
- Individuals with a previous misdemeanor or felony conviction
- Individuals recovering from substance abuse (opioid, other drug addictions)
- Be authorized to work in the U.S. and of legal working age (applicable to the position)
- Be a new hire or recipient of a promotion with the employer seeking the bond
- Self-employed, 1099 independent contractors, or the owner/principal of a business are NOT ELIGIBLE for bonding coverage
Employer Eligibility
- Employer must be located and / or operating in Nebraska
- Be in good standing with the Nebraska Secretary of State
- Have an active account in NEworks (preferred)
- Full or part-time employment offered (W-2 paid wages, with taxes withheld)
- Provide the individual with a firm job offer (new employment or promotion) with a set start date.
- Sole proprietor employers must complete the U.S. Citizenship Attestation Form
How to Apply
The process is simple and requires minimal paperwork. Complete the fidelity bond request form entirely and include supportive documentation such as a background check to expedite the bond issuance process (not required) and email to: NDOL.RSFidelityBonds@nebraska.gov
