Nebraska Department of Labor Invites Lexington Workers to Rapid Response Layoff Services Event at Central Community College
LINCOLN, NE — The Nebraska Department of Labor (NDOL) is inviting individuals who are experiencing a layoff to attend an upcoming Rapid Response session designed to connect Nebraskans with essential support, resources, and guidance. The event will support Tyson workers whose employment is ending this month, and is open to all workers experiencing a layoff.
“Nebraskans who are navigating job loss deserve clear information, supportive guidance, and access to the full range of services available to them,” said Commissioner of Labor Katie Thurber. “Our team is committed to helping individuals take their next step with confidence, and this orientation is an opportunity to learn about the programs designed to help them move forward.”
Informational presentations and assistance will be available Thursday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 3-4:30 p.m. at Central Community College, 1501 Plum Creek Parkway, Room 204, in Lexington. Staff will be on site to answer questions and provide support in multiple languages.
Topics covered will include:
- Job search assistance and résumé services
- Career exploration resources
- Health coverage and financial information
- Guidance on filing Unemployment Insurance claims
- Access to additional assistance programs and support
NDOL encourages anyone experiencing a layoff to attend and take advantage of these resources. Unemployment claims should not be filed until employment ends, but registration in NEworks.nebraska.gov can be completed at any time.
NDOL Available Services for Dislocated Workers Include:
- Basic skills and English language assessments
- Coordination with Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English Language Learner (ELL) programs
- Enrollment assistance with Central Community College, Mid‑Plains Community College, and regional truck‑driving schools
- Initial training focus areas such as:
- CNA (with approximately 100 statewide openings through the Nebraska Department of Veterans Affairs)
- Medication Aide
- Medical Coding
- CDL
- Construction
- Access to more than 178 eligible training programs in the region

Transportation Support for Reemployed Workers
Bus transportation is now available for former Tyson employees who have secured new employment in North Platte. Interested workers may contact their employer for details and sign‑up information or reach out to NDOL at ndol.employerservices@nebraska.gov.
