Lincoln to Host Military and Veteran Hiring Event

Release Date: 9/8/2017

LINCOLN - For the third year in a row, Lincoln will host a Military and Veteran hiring event on Thursday, September 21 at the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System, North Auditorium Entrance, located at 600 South 70th Street, Lincoln, NE. The event will run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is open to all active duty service members, Guard, Reserve, veterans, their spouses, and working age dependents.

“Nebraska employers continue to see the value of bringing veterans into their companies and offer an abundant array of career opportunities,” said Governor Pete Ricketts. “The civilian population of veterans in our state is 128,000, and 50% of that population is employed, in addition to 5,537 active duty service members, 3,850 Guard, and 494 Reserve. I am proud of their contributions both during their military service and in their post-military careers.”

“This year’s event will feature 40 employers who have vacant positions they want to fill,” said Commissioner of Labor John H. Albin. “Employers who attended past hiring events return because of the quality of candidates and hires from those events. I encourage all veterans who are looking to re-enter the workforce or are in search of a new opportunity to attend this event.”

In addition to the hiring event, the Nebraska Department of Labor will host four Hiring Workshops on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. and Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Topics covered at the workshop will include best practices for engaging with employers, making a positive and best impression, and creating marketable resumes. Attendees, and those who would like resume assistance and are unable to attend, are encouraged to email their resume to H2HNebraska@gmail.com prior to the event.

“The broad range of experience and skills veterans bring are attractive to employers, and we want to assist veterans in translating their military skills to the civilian job market,” Albin said. “This is a great opportunity to meet the hiring managers in companies that want the skills veterans offer.”

Resumes will be accepted at the career fair and interviews may be conducted on site. Veterans and employers can register for free for the event online through Eventbrite.com.

The event is hosted by the Lincoln Business Task Force with the City of Lincoln, Lincoln Community Foundation, the Nebraska Department of Labor, and the VA Nebraska – Western Iowa Health Care System.
