October State Unemployment Rate Is 3.3 Percent

LINCOLNā€ The Nebraska Department of Labor (NDOL) announced today that Nebraska’s preliminary unemployment rate for October is 3.3 percent, seasonally adjusted. The rate is up 0.1 percentage points over the month and 0.3 percentage points over the year.

“The slight increase in the October unemployment rate appears to be primarily due to people reentering the labor market and looking for work,” said Commissioner of Labor John H. Albin.

Nonfarm employment for October increased to 1,024,791, up 5,510 over the month and 2,908 over the year. Private industries with the most growth year over year were education and health services (up 2,977), professional and business services (up 672) and leisure and hospitality (up 394). Month to month, the largest gains were seen in trade, transportation and utilities (up 3,585), education and health services (up 763), and professional and business services (up 567).

The national seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for October was 4.9 percent, down 0.1 percentage points over the month and over the year.

November 2016 data will be published Friday, December 16.
