September State Unemployment Rate Stable at 3.2 Percent

LINCOLN- The Nebraska Department of Labor (NDOL) announced today that Nebraska’s preliminary unemployment rate for September was 3.2 percent, seasonally adjusted.  The rate is the same as the August rate and up 0.2 percentage points over the year. 

 “2016 continues the trend of nonfarm employment increasing from August to September,” said Commissioner of Labor John H. Albin.  “The start of the school year is always a big employment driver.” 

Nonfarm employment for September increased to 1,018,830, up 3,976 over the month and 8,392 over the year. Private industries with the most growth year over year were education and health services (up 4,010), professional and business services (2,974) and leisure and hospitality (up 2,024).  Month to month, the largest gains were seen in education and health services (up 1,097), professional and business services (up 642) and information (up 67).

The national seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for August was 5.0 percent, up 0.1 percent from the August rate and down 0.1 percentage points from the September 2015 rate of 5.1 percent.
