Lincoln to Host Hero 2 Hired Career Fair for Veterans

Release Date: 4/27/2016

For the second year in a row, Lincoln will host a Hero2Hired career fair for veterans May 4 at the Lancaster Event Center.  The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to all active duty service members, Guard, Reserve, veterans, their spouses, and working age dependents.

“Nebraska employers continue to see the value of bringing veterans into their companies,” said Governor Pete Ricketts.  “Our state employed 74,000 veterans in 2015. I am grateful for their contributions both during their military service and in their post-military careers.”

Last year’s Hero2Hired event drew over 100 employers and more than 80 employers have registered for this year’s event so far.  “Employers who attended the last event indicated that they were impressed with the quality of candidates,” said Commissioner of Labor John H. Albin.  “I encourage all veterans who are looking to re-enter the workforce or are in search of a new opportunity to attend this fair.  Employers are looking forward to talking with you.”

In addition to the hiring fair, the Nebraska Department of Labor will provide resume assistance at an employment workshop offered at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Topics covered at the workshop will include writing quality resumes, steps to utilize your quality resume, and marketing yourself to employers. Attendees are encouraged to upload their resumes in NEworks.nebraska.gov prior to the event.

“The goal of the workshop is to assist veterans in translating their military skills into the civilian job market,” Albin said.  “The broad range of experience and skills veterans bring are attractive to employers, and we want to ensure that job seekers are getting the credit they deserve as they market themselves to companies’ hiring managers.”

Resumes will be accepted at the career fair and interviews may be conducted on site.  Veterans and employers can register for free for the event online through Eventbrite.com.  Sponsors of the career fair include the City of Lincoln, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), Hero2Hired, the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, Lincoln Community Foundation, Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development, Nebraska Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Defense.
