Nebraska Monthly Unemployment Rate for September is 2.9 Percent

LINCOLN- The Nebraska Department of Labor (NDOL) announced today that Nebraska’s preliminary unemployment rate for September is 2.9 percent, seasonally adjusted. The jobless rate is up 0.1 percentage points from the August rate and down 0.3 percentage points from the September 2014 rate of 3.2 percent.

 

“September was the eighth consecutive month that Nebraska has had an unemployment rate below 3 percent,” said Commissioner of Labor John H. Albin. “September also showed an increase of more than 6,000 jobs from the year before.”

 

Nonfarm employment in September was 1,004,246, up by 6,294 compared to last September.  Private industries with the most growth year over year were education and health services (up 4,175), other services (up 2,073) and financial activities (up 1,940).  Month to month, the largest gains were seen in education and health services (up 956) and financial activities (up 309).

 

The seasonally-adjusted national unemployment rate for August is 5.1 percent, unchanged from the August rate and down 0.8 percentage points from the September 2014 rate of 5.9 percent.
