Nebraska Monthly Unemployment Rate Holds Steady

LINCOLN- The Nebraska Department of Labor (NDOL) announced today that Nebraska’s preliminary unemployment rate for June is 2.6 percent, seasonally adjusted. The jobless rate is unchanged from the May rate and down 0.7 percentage points from the June 2014 rate of 3.3 percent. •

“June continued the trend of the unemployment rate at well under last year’s rate and total nonfarm employment holding at over 1 million,” said Commissioner of Labor John H. Albin.  “A variety of industries grew over the month and over the year.”

Nonfarm employment in June was 1,007,608, up 6,082 compared to last June.  Private industries with the most growth year over year were education and health services (up 4,793), other services (up 1,566) and financial activities (up 1,329).  Month to month, the largest gains were seen in leisure and hospitality (up 2,703), mining and construction (up 2,150), and financial activities (up 187).

The seasonally-adjusted national unemployment rate for June is 5.3 percent, down 0.2 percentage points from the May rate of 5.5 percent and down 0.8 percentage points from the June 2014 rate of 6.1 percent.

July 2015 data will be published Friday, August 21.
