Veteran Hiring Fairs Planned for Grand Island and Lincoln

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Department of Labor (NDOL) is partnering with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Nebraska National Guard and other sponsors to offer a Hiring Our Heroes fair in Grand Island Wednesday, March 25 and a Hero2Hired fair in Lincoln Wednesday, April 1.  Registration is free and walk-ins are welcome.

 

“Both of these events will bring together many of Nebraska’s top employers who are eager to hire veterans for their skills, discipline and work ethic,” said Governor Pete Ricketts.

 

Over 60 employers are registered for the March 25 Grand Island Hiring Our Heroes event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Central Community College, 3134 West Highway 34. An 8:30 a.m. workshop will cover resume writing, tips for successfully navigating hiring fairs, military skill translation and interviewing.

Veterans and spouses should register for the job fair and workshop at hiringourheroes.org/events or through the Hiring Our Heroes mobile app.

 

“Over 100 interviews were conducted and 22 firm offers made at the last Hiring Our Heroes in Bellevue,” said Commissioner of Labor John H. Albin.  “We look forward to another great event.”

 

The Lincoln Hero2Hired event will run from 10 to 2 April 1 at the Lancaster Event Center, 4100 North 84th Street, with an employment workshop scheduled for 8:30 a.m. and again at 9. Over 50 employers are registered for the hiring fair so far. The event is open to all veterans, transitioning service members, military spouses and dependents up to age 26.

 

The workshop will include tips and techniques for writing a professional resume and translating military skills into civilian skills. Department of Labor staff will also be available to offer resume review. Registration for the job fair and workshop is online at https://eventbrite.com/event/15729405074/.
