|Furloughed Federal Employee Notice|
With the Congressional passage of the Continuing Appropriations Act (H.R. 2775) signed by the President, US Department of Labor has advised all states that back-pay of federal monies will be paid to those federal workers affected by the October 1, 2013 furlough.
As a result federal employees filing state unemployment insurance claims will not be eligible for unemployment benefits for any unemployed weeks for which the back pay applies.
The Nebraska Department of Labor is reviewing recent federal claims filed to identify those for which back pay will be received, with action taken as follows.
In order to prevent overpayments, we encourage furloughed federal workers to withdraw initial claims if no weeks were certified.
Those initial claims filed where weekly claims were made and certified, but not paid, will be completed in a manner to avoid possible unemployment benefit overpayment.
Those claims filed, where unemployment benefits have already been paid for the weeks in which the back pay applies, will be set in overpayment. Individual notice of overpayment for those claims will be mailed at a later date.
